10 Month Limited Term Appointment in Human Geography
The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications for a 10-month Limited Term Appointment to fill an existing vacancy. This position is at the Assistant Professor rank and will start August 1, 2026. This position is located in North Bay, Ontario and the successful candidate will be required to work on campus.
We welcome applicants whose work contributes to core areas of Human Geography, broadly defined. This includes cultural geography, with its focus on landscapes, identity, representation, and the meanings people attach to place; and social geography, encompassing migration, mobility, inequality, and Indigenous geographies, with particular interest in candidates who incorporate environmental dimensions into social geographic inquiry, such as the social impacts of climate change, environmental justice, and community relationships to land and resources. The ideal candidate will have:
- A completed PhD in Geography or be near completion; candidates who have a PhD in a closely related discipline will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in undergraduate teaching.
- Experience teaching graduate courses would be considered an asset.
- A specialization in human geography with a focus on environment would be considered an asset.
- Active research portfolio with a focus in human geography would be considered an asset.
The candidate will be responsible for delivering six courses in the program. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach a range of courses which could include:
- GEOG 2136 - Cultural Geography
- GEOG 2226 - Environment and Society
With four additional courses from the following list:
- GEOG 3106 - Impact Assessment for Resource Management
- GEOG 3126 - Food and Agricultural Systems
- GEOG 4026 - Political Ecology
- GEOG 4907 - Selected Topics in Human Geography
- ENST 5116 - Perspectives on the Environment

The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Full-time Academic Staff Bargaining Unit Collective Agreement. The annual salary for this 10-month Assistant Professor position will be prorated from the full-time salary range of $87,720 to $134,200 CAD.
