POSITION TITLE: Orientation Student Assistant

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $17.60/hour plus Vacation Pay as determined by HR Policy
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Student Assistants support the department in planning, implementing, and assessing first-year student orientation programming including Summer, Fall, and Winter Orientation programs.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Student Assistants will support the SLT team by assisting with:
- Developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive new student programs for a diverse student population with various stakeholders;
- Collaborating with various departments throughout the institution to facilitate new student programming;
- Preparing content for multiple audiences across different formats (online, print, etc.) as required;
- Promoting the department through social media channels in alignment with the SLT Social Media Strategy;
- Researching and data gathering relating to best practices within student development and services;
- Participate in ongoing professional development including in-service opportunities provided by the department;
- Completion of utilization and satisfaction reports;
- Good interpersonal communication skills, and comfort with engaging others in conversation while recognizing that people hold various and interconnecting identities stemming from different backgrounds, beliefs and/or experiences; and
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Student (2nd year and above) in good academic standing.
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Excellent work ethic and attention to detail
- Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
