POSITION TITLE: Orientation Student Assistant

CLOSING DATE: March 20, 2026

EMPLOYMENT DATES: May 5, 2026 – August 28, 2026

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week

RATE OF PAY: $17.60/hour plus Vacation Pay as determined by HR Policy

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Student Assistants support the department in planning, implementing, and assessing first-year student orientation programming including Summer, Fall, and Winter Orientation programs. 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Student Assistants will support the SLT team by assisting with: 

  • Developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive new student programs for a diverse student population with various stakeholders; 
  • Collaborating with various departments throughout the institution to facilitate new student programming;  
  • Preparing content for multiple audiences across different formats (online, print, etc.) as required; 
  • Promoting the department through social media channels in alignment with the SLT Social Media Strategy; 
  • Researching and data gathering relating to best practices within student development and services; 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including in-service opportunities provided by the department;   
  • Completion of utilization and satisfaction reports;  
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, and comfort with engaging others in conversation while recognizing that people hold various and interconnecting identities stemming from different backgrounds, beliefs and/or experiences; and 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Student (2nd year and above) in good academic standing. 
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. 
  • Excellent work ethic and attention to detail 
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
