Position Title: Access and Belonging, Student Assistant

Rate of Pay: $17.60 per hour + Vacation as determined by HR policy
Job Description:
The Access and Belonging Assistant will work in conjunction with the Student Experience Coordinator, Access and Belonging to assist in the planning, implementation and assessment of student equity initiatives at Nipissing University. The incumbent will assist in the creation and maintenance of educational campaigns the creation of social media content and support equity initiatives.
This position requires extensive collaboration with various on and off-campus partners. This position is funded by the Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program (OPAIP), and the incumbent must meet the program's eligibility criteria. The candidate must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the end of the employment period and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
Duties Include:
- Work closely with the Student Experience Coordinator, Access and Belonging, to support equity-focused programming that enhances student quality of experience at Nipissing University as it relates to equity.
- Assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of campus-wide events, workshops, and outreach activities
- Assist with the development of educational print and video materials, including but not limited to: presentations, posters, campaigns, and social media content
- Assist in collecting quantitative and qualitative data related to OPAIP’s three program components: Outreach, Access/Transition, and Retention
- Assist in preparing summaries or draft inputs for OPAIP reports, including the Final Project Report and any ad hoc reporting requested by the Province
- Research best practices on creating safer, more inclusive spaces on campus and supporting underrepresented and systemically marginalized student populations
- Support communications, promotions, and administrative tasks related to the Access and Belonging portfolio
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident between the ages of 15-30
- Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability and punctuality
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Experience with public speaking
- Ability to work in a discreet and confidential manner
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability of relating to students from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds
- NU Student (2nd year or above) with good academic standing (cumulative average of 65% or higher) in a program without a practicum or placement requirement in 2025-26 academic year
