Honouring CIS Academic All-Canadians

Nipissing University is very proud to celebrate the academic achievements of student-athletes this week during a special breakfast for CIS Academic All Canadians. The Lakers have 50 student-athletes named as Academic all-Canadians. Student-athletes at Nipissing University strive for excellence in sport, academics and in the greater community. They spend over 20 hours per week on school work, while committing at least another 20 hours to athletics, as they practice daily and compete most weekends. On top of this, many student-athletes find the time to volunteer with various community organizations.

In 1988, the CIS introduced its first Academic All-Canadians, those exceptional student-athletes who achieve an academic standing of 80 per cent or better, all while playing on one of their university’s varsity teams. A CIS Academic All-Canadian distinction is one of the highest recognitions a university student- athlete can receive.

The athletes who earn this prestigious honour are inspirational to the Nipissing community and Lakers Athletics congratulate them for their work ethic and determination.

The Lakers will celebrate the accomplishments of these student-athletes at a ceremony on the morning of March 18 at 100 Elements, on the Education Centre campus.
