Schulich School of Education named Apple Distinguished Program

The Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for 2014–2016 for its commitment to enhancing teaching and learning through the innovative use of technology.

In 2000, the university was the first in Ontario to fully integrate laptop computers in the faculty of education. The Schulich School of Education is at the forefront of researching the use of technology in education. Projects range from determining the key pieces necessary for a school to engage effectively with technology, to how to better engage boys in literacy, to how to best provide teaching and training to remote northern communities.

“This is an exciting day for Nipissing and the Schulich School of Education in particular,” said Dr. Carole Richardson, dean of the Schulich School of Education.  “Nipissing earned this designation thanks, in large part, to the work of Dr. Tina Benevides and Ken Waller, who have both been named Apple Distinguished Educators. They were instrumental in helping to draw Apple’s attention to the groundbreaking work that has been done here.”

The Apple Distinguished Program designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.
