NU Brantford hosts Japanese scholar

Nipissing University’s Brantford Campus recently welcomed Dr. Nana Kodama from Shiga University, Japan, to learn about the Nipissing University international practicum placements in teacher education.

Kodama is in Canada on sabbatical and is interested in the implementation and research related to international experiences for teacher candidates. She had recently read published articles by Dr. Cantalini-Williams and her colleagues in such academic venues as the Higher Education Quality Council website and the Journal of Comparative and International Education.

Kodama travelled to the Brantford campus of Nipissing University on November 17 and received a presentation hosted by Dr. Maria Cantalini-Williams, joined by Dr. Arlene Grierson, Rick Denton, and Courtney Brewer. Karen Strang of the NU International Initiatives Office, Dr. Barb Olmsted, Roger Bernades and Dr. Dan Jarvis attended by videoconference from the North Bay campus. The presentation focussed on the practical aspects of implementing the international experience and the research findings attesting to the benefits of international experiences in Italy and Kenya for Nipissing students.
