Northern Ontario Bioenergy Tour

The Biomass Innovation Centre (BIC) recently returned from a successful study tour of northern Ontario communities with international partners.  From November 4 – 8, the BIC led a delegation of Finnish, Swedish and Canadian biomass experts on a study tour throughout northern Ontario – including stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Marathon, Red Rock and Thunder Bay.
This delegation was composed of industry leaders, consultants, academics and researchers, forest equipment providers, biomass boiler/CHP manufactures and government personnel – each with several years of biomass expertise in their native countries and with major interests in seeking opportunities within Ontario. The purpose of this tour was to explore potential project and business alliances between our northern Ontario communities/businesses and with the members of this delegation.

In each of the corresponding stops on the tour the BIC held mini-workshops and B2B meetings with community leaders, regional economic developers, equipment manufacturers, forest harvesters, SFL holders, industry, academia/researchers and First Nations.
