McLaren earns Community Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Laurie McLaren, executive director of Nipissing’s Office of Aboriginal Initiatives, on recently receiving the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award.McLaren, was presented the award for fostering community and dialogue for the Lieutenant Governor’s Aboriginal Forums. These forums create bridges with businesses and educational institutions to support First Nations people in Ontario. She received this award with Mr. Jonathan Hamilton-Diabo and Mr. Balinder Ahluwalia.
The Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award was established by the Hon. Hilary M. Weston in 1998 to recognize Ontario volunteers for their outstanding contributions to their communities. The award honours volunteers who serve as the backbone of not-for-profit organizations and who have a direct impact on the people their organizations serve. The Lieutenant Governor personally presents this award during community visits throughout Ontario. This distinction is awarded at the discretion of the Lieutenant Governor.
