Renowned choir returns to North Bay

Elmer Isler Singers Concert

Continuing the success of our Sharing Our Choral Art concert series, Near North Voices is pleased to welcome back the Elmer Iseler Singers for a shared concert on November 2.Conducted by Lydia Adams, this internationally renowned professional chamber choir carries on a 35-year tradition of choral excellence.
“The Elmer Iseler Singers last performed in North Bay in October 2011 to a packed house,” said Dr. Adam Adler, Artistic Director of Near North Voices.
“We anticipate showing them the same, warm North Bay welcome on November 2.” The North Bay concerts are presented with the support of a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, and are part of the Elmer Iseler Singers’ Northern Ontario Tour, with concerts in Elliott Lake (Nov. 1), North Bay (Oct. 31 and Nov. 2), Huntsville (Nov. 3) and Sudbury (Nov. 4).
Near North Voices is also pleased to be partnering with the Near North District School Board to offer an Educational Concert by the Elmer Iseler Singers on October 31 at West Ferris Secondary School.
“Choral singing is a declining art form in our schools, and as a result could be at risk as a future element of Canadian culture,” said Dr. Adam Adler, who is also Assistant Professor of Music Education at Nipissing University.
“Students are rarely singing in elementary school, and without positive, crystallizing experiences with this form of music making early on, they aren’t likely to view it as an option for high school or as a lifelong pursuit. By introducing students to excellent choral singing and repertoire, we hope to get them interested in participating in classroom singing and in joining co-curricular groups in their elementary schools, and in taking vocal music as a course in high school.“
Sharing our Choral Art will be presented on Saturday, November 2, 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 399 Cassells St., North Bay. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students with valid student I.D., and are available at the door and at Gulliver’s Quality Books and Toys on Main St.
