A weekend split wasn’t perfect, but the Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team isn’t looking back, they’re looking ahead. The Lakers earned a solid 2-1 win Saturday afternoon over RMC before being shutout 7-0 by Queen’s Sunday. Immediately after the conclusion of Sunday’s game, the team’s focus shifted to Wednesday’s first round playoff matchup.
The Lakers hit the road and make their way to back to Kingston for a date with Queen’s once again.
The winner of that match will advance to Saturday’s quarter-final.
Saturday, all the Lakers’ scoring came before the seven minute mark of the first half as Jean-Michel Paulin and Ryan Mantle both found the back of the net to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead very early on.
RMC responded with a goal of their own at the 11 minute mark and despite the early flurry, that was all the scoring the game would see as the Lakers came out on top.
Sunday, resting a few veterans, the Lakers were shutout by Queen’s to the tune of 7-0.
Three first half goals and four in the second sunk the Lakers, who will look to gain some revenge tomorrow in the rematch, with much more on the line than Sunday’s regular season finale. ?
