Nipissing Cross-Country give heart at OUA championships

Lakers Cross Country Women

The “Gales of November” came early at last Saturday’s Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships. The wet, windy, cold and muddy conditions added to the challenge. All of the runners, on all teams, raced hard and the finishing times reflect a tough day for all. The winning times in both the men’s and women’s races show just how strong the OUA Conference is.The Lakers’ men and women all ran strong races. With half our squads having never raced at the OUA championships before, it was a true learning experience. We were fierce competitors, man-to-man and woman-to-woman, and held on to our same finishing position from 2012. It continues to be a tight battle between us and York, Laurier, and Brock to break in-to the top-10 in the conference. The men’s and women’s teams finished 13th and 14th respectively. The good news for Nipissing is that we are a young team in 2013 and look forward to our rookies improving in the next few years and hopefully bolstered by new recruits.
