Lakers women’s soccer playoff bound

The Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team picked a really good time to have one of their best weekends of the year, and it has catapulted them into a playoff position. The Lakers came up with a 3-0 win Saturday against RMC and a 2-2 draw Sunday against Queen’s, as they picked up four of a possible six points, which puts them into Wednesday’s first round matchup against Carleton.
Saturday, the Lakers received goals from three different players, including Valaine Confesor’s game-winner as the Lakers shutout RMC to ensure a playoff position.
Confesor scored at the 37 minute mark of the first half, while Shannon Russell and Rachel Lingard added second half tallies to give the Lakers the win.
Carlee Bennard earned the shutout and cleansheet for the Lakers.
Sunday, the Lakers fought back twice from one goal deficits, to earn a 2-2 draw.
Russell scored her second of the weekend just one minute after Queen’s opened the scoring early in the first half.
And despite trailing going into halftime, the Lakers came out hard and thanks to Sara Dorval’s 60th minute goal, the Lakers walked away with a draw.
The team is back on the road today as they head to Carleton to take on the Ravens, with the winner advancing to Saturday’s quarter-final. ???
