The Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team can definitely hold their heads up high despite their season coming to an end Wednesday night on the road in Round 1 of the playoffs. ?The Lakers took on the Carleton Ravens, with the winner advancing to the OUA quarter-finals and despite showing a tonne of heart, desire and hard work, the Lakers fell a goal short, as the Ravens held on for a 3-2 victory, ending the Lakers hopes at a title.HockeyMen’s
Despite a great push in the second half of the game, the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team’s comeback bid fell short against the Queen’s Gaels. The Gaels led 2-0 after the first and were up 4-1 in the second period before the Lakers turned it on, getting within one goal late in the game, only to fall 6-4, after a Gaels empty-netter sealed the game.
For the second night in a row, the line of Grant Toulmin, Conor O’Donnell and Dorian Peca led the way, this time earning the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team their first win of the season. The Lakers scored early and often and walked out of Memorial Gardens with an 8-5 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks in front of a loud and boisterous crowd, celebrating Nipissing University’s Homecoming Weekend.Women’s
Finally, a one-goal game went the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team’s way, as they snapped their four game winless streak with a win Saturday afternoon on home ice over the Ryerson Rams. After their season opening win, the Lakers had dropped four straight games, but three of those games were decided by one goal. This time, the Lakers were on the right side of a tight contest and earned their second win of the season, with a 1-0 shutout triumph.
Despite picking up their play as the game went on, a slow start cost the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team Sunday night as they were shutout by the University of Toronto. U of T controlled the early part of the game, scoring four times on their first 13 shots and locked it down from there, even with late pressure by the Lakers to try to ruin the shutout bid.VolleyballMen’s
Close is a great way to describe the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team, but not one they’re likely fond of. The Lakers fell to 0-3 in the young OUA season after they lost 3-0 to the University of Toronto Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Lakers were defeated by the Ryerson Rams Sunday evening on the road, losing 25-17, 25-21 and 25-19, one day after losing in straight sets to the University of Toronto.Women’s
It’s been a tough start to the 2013-14 OUA season for the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team, despite showing signs of potential. The Lakers dropped their third straight match Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to the University of Toronto.
In Sunday’s match against the Ryerson Rams, the Lakers came up short, losing 25-18, 25-16 and 25-15 to a strong Rams team.
