Poverty Awareness Week 2012

The Poverty Awareness Network of Nipissing (PANN) will be hosting the 2nd annual Poverty Awareness Week at Nipissing University, January 30 – February 3, 2012, focussing on the issue of student poverty at home and abroad.Events for the week include:A presentation by Gordon Teti of Lorna Children Foundation Kenya, speaking about growing up in Kenya, on Tuesday, January 31, 7 p.m., room A137;An Information Fair featuring resources and groups for students and youth in need on Wednesday, February 1, Student Center Hallway, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.;Empty Bowls: Student Poverty Art Exhibition featuring art by students and local artists, Thursday, February 2, 7 p.m., room F204; andThe World Cafe on Student Poverty, Friday, February 3, 1 p.m. room H102.
All events are free and open to the public; a voluntary donation of non-perishable food for Student Food Bank is encouraged and appreciated.

Formed in 2010, PANN is a student run organization aimed at providing information to students and the community about the existence and prevalence of poverty in our community, our country, and worldwide. Furthermore, PANN hopes that by raising awareness about poverty, we may encourage students and community members to do something about poverty.
