Students in Nipissing’s third-year Bachelor of Science inNursing program have the opportunity to learn from experts about best practices for kicking butt.

Nipissing University is hosting the Nursing Students Smoking Cessation Champion Workshop this Friday, March 9, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in room A224. The workshop is organized by the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario (RNAO) in an effort to teach best practices. It is part of the RNAO’s National Nursing Smoking Cessation Best Practices Initiative 2011-12.

All students who attend the workshop will receive a certificate from the RNAO as a Tobacco Cessation Best Practice Champion while learning how to best help people quit smoking.

The workshop is aimed at Nursing students who want:

  • A dynamic, interactive learning experience that incorporates theory, techniques and tools to assist nurses to effectively shape clinical practice in the area of smoking cessation through the use of evidence based practices
  • Professional development based on personal goal setting, interactive learning and the formation of action plans related to implementing the “Integrating Smoking Cessation into Daily Nursing Practice” Nursing Best Practice Guideline in the clinical setting.

The workshop fits the BScN program’s third-year component on Community Health.
