Business students excel in strategy game

Nipissing University business students performed exceptionally well competing against peers from around the world in a business strategy game, with six Nipissing teams finishing in the top 100 out of 5,830 in the world wide competition.
Devin Brown and his teammates managing Badidas Inc. finished an impressive second place world-wide in the Return on Equity (ROE)category in the final week, with a 103.1% ROE.

The Business Strategy Game: Competing in a Global Marketplace, is an online game in which student teams are assigned the task of running an athletic footwear company in head-to-head competition against companies managed by other student teams. Just as in the real-world, companies compete in a global market arena. The challenge is to craft and execute a competitive strategy that results in a respected brand image, keeps the company in contention for global market leadership, and produces good financial performance.

A total of 65 upper-year business students in Dr. Glenn Brophey’s Business Strategy and Policy course competed in the game, which took place throughout this semester.

“This game is an excellent tool for teaching the dynamics of business strategy and to teach students to examine how the functional areas of business affect each other,” said Brophey.  “I’m really proud of our students.  They showed terrific business acumen competing against teams from 337 institutions from around the world.”
