Poverty Awareness Network of Nipissing sleeping out

The Poverty Awareness Network of Nipissing (PANN) is getting ready for its first ever Poverty Awareness Sleep-Out.

Students and community members are invited to take part in this event on October 20, starting at 7 p.m. in front of the Nipissing University main entrance. Students, led by PANN, will be sleeping outside for one full night to raise awareness about the presence and prevalence of poverty in our university, college and community. This is the first in a series of poverty awareness and reduction related events hosted by PANN leading up to Poverty Awareness Week 2012.

Participants are encouraged to bring sleeping bags/blankets and pillows. PANN will provide light snacks, coffee, hot chocolate and a cardboard home-away-from-home to all participants. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to come out and show their support for the participants and to learn about poverty in our community and how they can help.

Background on PANN
PANN is a student run organization under the umbrella of the Nipissing University Learning network with the goal of addressing poverty in our school and in our community. They were formed in 2010 by a group of enthusiastic students wishing to raise awareness and encourage individuals to become involved in the reduction of poverty at a local level. This year's theme for PANN's programming is Student Poverty: At home and abroad.
