Positive results for Nipissing in international survey

Nipissing University received excellent results in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), released last week.

The survey shows that Nipissing students’ overall experience is overwhelmingly positive. According to first-year respondents, 91% reported a favourable image of the institution and 80% felt that the institution placed a substantial emphasis on academics. In addition, 82% of senior students stated that they would have chosen Nipissing again if they could start their university career over.

NSSE measures levels of student engagement in curricular and co-curricular programs and activities that are considered to be central to the goals of a successful learning experience in post-secondary education.  The survey asks students a series of questions related to their education experience, such as: how much quality interaction students have with faculty, how many extra curricular activities they participate in, how many research projects they have participated in, etc.

Nipissing achieved scores well above the Ontario mean in three of the five benchmark areas that NSSE employs: Supportive Campus Environment, Active and Collaborative Learning, and Student-Faculty Interaction. Nipissing performed especially well in the Supportive Campus Environment category with a mean score 6.9 higher than the rest of the province for first-year students and 4.7 higher for senior students as compared to the rest of the province.

The university performed near equal to the provincial average in the remaining benchmark areas: Level of Academic Challenge and Enriching Educational Experiences.

The survey asks students at hundreds of colleges and universities in Canada and the United States to reflect on the time they devote to various learning activities.  Nipissing University continually strives to provide the highest level of academic excellence and a positive learning environment for students. The National Survey of Student Engagement provides valuable student feedback to the institution.
