New website launched

This week, Nipissing University launched a new institutional website, providing easier navigation to a wider range of audiences, improved functionality and better integration of social media.

The site overhaul was roughly five months in the making and involved instituting an entirely new content management system, building thousands of pages, creating vast amounts of content and imagery, and transferring and formatting a virtual mountain of information.

“Nipissing is a vibrant and dynamic institution and its website needs to reflect that reality to potential students, while operating as a significant resource to our whole community,” said Lisa Drinkwalter, manager integrated marketing communications. “Given our size, it was a massive undertaking and we assembled a great team, utilizing expertise from marketing and technology services, to accomplish our goal. Everyone involved did a fantastic job. A website launch is just the beginning and we continue to enhance it and implement new functionality.”

Some key functional improvements to the new site include:

  • More site real estate devoted to potential students so they can better learn about all aspects of Nipissing University and more easily make contact with the appropriate department(s)
  • Web authors throughout the university are now better able to manage their own content
  • Increased visibility for regional campuses in Muskoka and Brantford Information can be better repurposed throughout the site, rather than needing to be recreated, allowing for the site to stay current more easily
  • Improved integration with all forms of social media
  • Increased opportunity to easily share stories and information through social media channels
  • Greater visual impact that can be tailored to suit a particular webpage
  • More information can be presented on each faculty member, noting research interests and publications

“I’d like to offer a special thanks to the team who’s hard work enabled us to launch this great new resource: Christian Brown, Frank Ciancio, Brendan O'Connor, Grant Pearson,Paul Ritter and Verdon Vaillancourt,” said Drinkwalter.
