Lakers volleyball earn bragging rights in Battle of the Bay

The men’s and women’s Lakers volleyball teams both earned victories last week in the Battle of the Bay, taking on cross-campus rivals, the Canadore Panthers.Lady Lakers win Battle of the BayThe Nipissing Lady Lakers finished the first half of the regular season on a winning note by claiming the Battle of Bay, defeating he Canadore Panthers 3-1 (25-6, 25-19, 18-25, 25-12).
With the victory the Lakers improve to 8-1 keeping pace with the division leading Humber Hawks.
Lucia DeMarco had another solid offensive performance pouring in a game high 19 points while Brittany Ardron and Heather Thompson had 13 and 12 points respectively.Thompson was selected the player of the game for the Lady Lakers.
The Lady Lakers will be training hard during the next few weeks to prepare for the McMaster Invitational Tournament, which will take place in Tampa Bay over the holidays. This high caliber tournament will feature teams such as York, McMaster, the University of Manitoba, FX Garneau and Moncton University along with Humber College.Streak continues for Lakers men
The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team pushed their undefeated record to nine as they collected a 3-1 victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-27, 25-15) over their cross-campus rivals the Canadore Panthers.
The win marks the end of the first half of the regular season for the Lakers who have managed to stay atop the OCAA rankings and climbed to number two in the National rankings.
Four Laker players managed to reach double digits in scoring. Andre Leblanc, Duncan Cairns and Frankie Edgecombe collected 12 points apiece while Scott Coulthard added 11.Edgecombe was named the Lakers player of the game.
The Lakers will be training over the next few weeks to prepare for the Cegep de Limoilou (Quebec) tournament which will feature some strong CCAA competition and help prepare the squad for the second half of the season and their push for OCAA gold.
