Golden Olympian Joins Lakers Hockey Camp

Three-time Olympic hockey gold medallist Cherie Piper laced up her skates recently and lent a hand as a guest coach at the Nipissing Lakers Hockey Camp.

The Olympian thrilled the young players, letting them wear her gold medals, signing autographs and answering any questions.

Piper, who will be attending Nipissing’s Schulich School of Education starting this September, has won three Olympic gold medals with the Canadian national team in 2002, 2006 and 2010, as well as one world championship title in 2004.  Playing internationally for team Canada, Piper has recorded 16 goals and 23 assists in 25 games. She graduated with a degree in sociology from Dartmouth University in 2007, where she also played varsity hockey.

She will continue to play for the Canadian national team while attending Nipissing University.
