Backgrounder

The purpose of this Summer Study Program is to engage in the study and culture of another land. Students are immersed in 4 weeks of intensive study where they take two Business Courses, Business Ethics taught by Dr. John Knox, and International Marketing taught by Professor Pierre Fournier. Their classes began on Tues. July 6th and extend until July 29th.

The Nipissing International Office coordinates the program and oversees various cultural excursions. The group of 16 Mexican students and their professor, Ms. Patricia Olivares arrived in Canada on June 29th. They were bussed from Toronto to Ottawa for Canada Day celebrations, where they captured photos of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. Their cultural trip moved on to Montreal where they viewed museums and enjoyed the annual jazz festival. June 29-July 4 to Ottawa for Canada Day and on to Montreal for the Jazz Festival June 30-Aug 1 to Toronto and Niagara Falls

Within our region the students will participate in other tourism/recreational activities including:

  • camping at Northern Wilderness Outfitters near South River from July 9-11
  • row in the Dragon Boat Festival on Trout Lake on July 17th
  • enjoy a day of fun in the sun and authentic Mexican meal on Talon Lake on July 18th
  • explore Lake Nipissing via a Commanda Cruise and Discover North Bay museum on July 23rd

In addition to these events, our Mexican guests will explore a few local businesses via an industry tour on July 14th, and have a private meeting/Q&A session with Mayor Vic Fedeli on July 28th.

This partnership between Nipissing University and Tec de Monterrey, Campus Tampico has been in existence since 2004. We hope to expand the Summer Study Program in 2011 to include students from several of our other international partner universities, for a truly multicultural study experience.
