This intermediate-level workshop highlights Blackboard features that support three key areas of teaching: student engagement, collaboration, and assessment.

Learn how to create meaningful group learning experiences, facilitate participation and presentations through Collaborate, and use the Grade Center to provide efficient, actionable feedback that helps students stay on track and succeed.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Create and manage student groups to support collaborative learning.
  • Facilitate synchronous activities and presentations using Class Collaborate.
  • Use Grade Center tools to monitor progress and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engagement, communication, and assessment within their courses.

Facilitator Bios

Mark Giddens has supported students, faculty, and staff at Nipissing University since 2001, beginning in Accessibility Services before transitioning to learning management system support in 2011. He has extensive experience in helping educators create engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences through technology.

Chris Bird has supported staff, faculty, and students at Nipissing University since 2011, when he began his career with University Technology Services (UTS). In 2016, he transitioned into the role of Learning Systems Technologist, where he has since specialized in course development, learning management system (LMS) support, instructional design, and faculty training. Chris is dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning experiences through innovative technologies and collaborative support, helping educators effectively engage students in both in-person and digital environments.
