10-Month Non-Permanent Lab Instructor in Chemistry

The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Geography in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications for a ten-month non-permanent replacement Laboratory Instructor in Chemistry. This position is full-time, non-permanent and will begin on August 1, 2026. This position is located in North Bay, ON.

Applicants for this position should have an M.Sc. in Chemistry and/or Biochemistry, those with a strong background at the interface of chemistry and biology will be preferred. The ideal candidate has demonstrated lab teaching capacities in either formal or informal settings and be interested in teaching to students from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds.

The successful candidate for the Laboratory Instructor position will directly support course offerings of existing chemistry courses with accompanying labs (CHEM 1006 General Chemistry I, CHEM 1007 General Chemistry II, CHEM 2306 Organic Chemistry I, CHEM 2307 Organic Chemistry II) that are part of requirements in science programming in Biology, Chemistry (minor), and Environmental Science. Laboratory Instructors play an integral role within their department, contributing to the academic, professional, and collegial environment of the university. This position is focused primarily on teaching, with opportunities for professional development and service. The role includes:

  • teaching classroom instruction (80%);
  • scholarly activities, professional activities, and/or innovative practice (10%); and
  • academic service to the University community, the professional community, and/or the community at large (10%).

The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Full-time Academic StaffBargaining Unit Collective Agreement. The annual salary range for this position will be $47,581 to $76,743.
