10-Month Service Course Instructor (Non-Permanent)
The Department of Fine Arts and English Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications for a ten-month non-permanent replacement Service Course Instructor Appointment in Academic Writing. This position is full-time, non-permanent and will begin on August 1, 2026. This position is located in North Bay, ON.
Applicants for this position should have a PhD in English Studies or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching multiple sections of ACAD 1601 - Academic Writing. The successful candidate will draw on their training in rhetoric and composition, close reading, and genre and discourse analysis to teach students how academic arguments are shaped by audience, purpose, and context. Their knowledge of research methods and critical theory will be used to support instruction in the use of evidence, synthesis, citation, and critical thinking.

Service Course Instructors play an integral role within their department, contributing to the academic, professional, and collegial environment of the university. This position is focused primarily on teaching, with opportunities for professional development and service. The role includes:
- teaching classroom instruction (80%);
- (b) scholarly activities, professional activities, and/or innovative practice (10%); and
- (c) academic service to the University community, the professional community, and/or the community at large (10%).
The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow Article 23b(12)(a) of the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Full-time Academic Staff Bargaining Unit Collective Agreement. The annual salary range for this position will be $47,581 to $76,743.
