Nipissing University is seeking an Online Course Content Author for an existing vacancy to serve as a subject matter expert in the creation, conversion, or maintenance of an online course within the School of Nursing.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a course development team including, at minimum, an Instructional Designer, a Course Production Technician, and staff/faculty in the School of Nursing, to develop content according to established milestones and the Nipissing Online Course Development Process. This role requires the ability to work independently and remotely, with strong communication and organizational skills.
This is a contract-based opportunity, with specific course details and timelines to be provided at the time of engagement.
Qualifications:
- The author must hold a Master's or PhD in Nursing, with a PhD preferred.
- Licence to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) without restrictions in Canada.
- Recent clinical expertise relevant to the course.
- Experience in online course development within higher education, coupled with a strong background in evidence-based practice, research methodologies, and knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system.
- The ability to integrate innovative teaching strategies and culturally competent content.
- Knowledge of concept-based curriculum.
Development of Pre-Packaged Courses in the School of Nursing :
NSGD 2226 – Concepts in Reproductive Health and Developmental Growth – In this course, students build on their knowledge of theories and concepts applied through the nursing process in caring for child-bearing families and reproductive health throughout the life span. Concepts explored include developmental growth, gender-affirming care, sexual health, maternal and perinatal health, contraception and pregnancy prevention, men’s sexual and reproductive health, and reproductive justice.
NSGD 2236 – Population Health - Using a synthesis of public health theory, epidemiology, theories of health promotion, and nursing theory, students in this course explore population-based strategies of health promotion in Canada, emphasizing diversity. They examine issues in population health over the lifespan and the impact of current practices, policies, and laws on public and community health. Concepts and topics include health determinants epidemiology of morbidity and mortality; community health, primary health, health promotion, social justice, advocacy, and public policy.
NSGD 4236 – Population and Community Health Nursing Practice - Students in this course continue to develop knowledge and skills relating to public and community health nursing. The course introduces the core competencies, key theoretical models and concepts that guide population and community health nursing. Students examine current population health issues in Canada and the role of nursing in population health management.
