Job Description: 

The MHW & REAL TALK Student Assistant supports the preparation of outreach and wellness promotion programs for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role is responsible for supporting various outreach programs and initiatives that increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing, reduce stigma, encourage help seeking, and increase awareness of campus services. In addition, the position supports REAL TALK, an initiative developed by Nipissing University’s Mental Health & Wellbeing department in partnership with Lakers Athletics. REAL TALK is a collaboration between athletes and mental health professionals, with the goal of improving student-athlete wellbeing. Each year, all Lakers Varsity teams designate a teammate as the REAL TALK Point Person who dedicates time outside of their academics and sport to serve as a champion to help decrease the stigma around mental illness and promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Duties Include:

The MHW & REAL TALK Student Assistant will support the development of and participation in outreach and prevention programming, which seek to support students in achieving their personal wellbeing goals at Nipissing University.  A brief list of required duties is as follows:
 

  • Assist with the development, preparation and delivery of outreach programming for diverse student groups (e.g., booths, campaigns, events)
  • Assist in determining effective outreach approaches for the student population
  • Assist with the preparation of social media campaign materials
  • Assist with administrative tasks for the MHW department
  • Engage with REAL TALK Point People to facilitate increased connections with the MHW team
  • Organize regular meetings between Point People and the REAL TALK lead
  • Organize and track the delivery of safeTALK & Mental Health First Aid workshops for athletes and athletics staff
  • Coordinate and manage the sharing of mental health resources with Point People, coaches, and athletics staff via MS Teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Nipissing University student
  • Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program (see link below to apply for the NUWORK Program)
  • Must have completed at least one year of studies at Nipissing University
  • Interest in student wellness & mental health 
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills 
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork  
  • Ability to work with students across diverse educational, cultural, and social backgrounds 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize shift tasks to complete
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms (i.e., Canva, Instagram)
