HOURS OF WORK:                        20 hours per week

RATE OF PAY:                                  $17.60 per hour + vacation pay in accordance with the ESA
 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Athletics Game Day Student Assistant supports the successful execution of intercollegiate athletic events by assisting various Athletics Department staff with game day operations. This role involves hands-on tasks related to event setup, coordination, and breakdown, ensuring a smooth and professional experience for athletes, staff, and spectators. The Game Day Student Assistant will assist with the operations of Lacrosse, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and hockey games. Lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and volleyball games take place on campus and hockey games take place at North Bay Memorial Gardens. Hours of work vary from 10 to 40 hours per month, September to February.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

This position will assist with the following duties:

  • Assist the Manager, Intercollegiate Sport and Sports Information & Game Day Coordinator with team logistics, including sideline coordination, bench setup, and supporting team needs before, during, and after competition.
  • Support the Athletics Facility & Equipment Technician in preparing and maintaining game day facilities, including court/field setup, equipment installation, and ensuring all technical elements are functioning properly.
  • Assist with the setup and operation of game day equipment, including scoreboards, timing systems, and other event-related technology.
  • Help the Athletics & Recreation Student Experience Clerk with administrative and organizational tasks such as distributing changeroom keys, preparing materials, maintaining inventories, and completing operational checklists.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Information & Game Day Coordinator to support media and communications, including setting up media areas, assisting with live stats, social media updates, and submitting game reports or game film as required.
  • Participate in pre- and post-game setup and teardown, including signage, seating, sponsor materials, and facility reset.
  • Provide general event support across multiple roles as needed, adapting to changing priorities in a live game environment.
  • Assist with ensuring a safe and organized environment by following operational procedures and reporting any issues or concerns to supervisors.
  • Support fan experience initiatives, including wayfinding, general inquiries, and helping create a welcoming and engaging environment for spectators.
  • Work collaboratively with Athletics staff, officials, teams, and external partners (e.g., Memorial Gardens staff) to ensure smooth event execution.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, reliability, and customer service when interacting with student-athletes, staff, and the public.
  • Represent Nipissing Lakers Athletics in a positive and professional manner at all times.
