Indigenous Teacher Education Program*

*(formally known as the Aboriginal Teacher Certification Program)

After completing the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP) you will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers, in the Primary and Junior division. As a qualified elementary school teacher, you will acquire the necessary pedagogical skills and knowledge combined with a strong personal understanding of Indigenous traditions, culture and heritage to build strong learning environments for Indigenous and non-Indigenous children.

Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program*

​*(formally known as the Aboriginal Classroom Assistant Diploma Program)

When you complete the Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (ICADP) you will be qualified to work, under the professional direction of the classroom teacher and school Principal, as a classroom assistant with Indigenous and non-Indigenous school children.

Teacher of Indigenous Languages as a Second Language Program*

*(formally known as the Teacher of Anishnaabemwin as a Second Language Program)

After completing the Teacher of Indigenous Languages as a Second Language Program (TILSL), you will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers, in an Indigenous language from Kindergarten to Grade 12. 

Program details and applications will be available in mid-January 2019 for programs starting in July 2019.

Family Support Programs

Summer Camps for Children

To support students in their goal in achieving academic success, the Summer Aboriginal Education Programs have developed a number of daily/weekly activities for children of our enrolled students. The programs are:

Youth Experience Program

The Youth Experience Program provides daily fun and educational activities for children aged 3-8 years of age from Monday-Friday. For specific information on this year's and last year's activities, please visit our Youth Experience Program website​.

We are happy to offer our exciting Science camps this summer. Each week will focus on a different theme. To see this year's activities, please visit our NUScience Explorations​ website.

INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORMS FOR SUMMER CAMPS WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO SUMMER STUDENTS. LOOK FOR THE APPLICATION FORMS IN EARLY JUNE TO ARRIVE BY MAIL.
