Ontario - Program Specific Admission Requirements

The following information applies to current Ontario high school applicants (regardless of status in Canada). The information on this page can also be used as a guide for applicants with an Ontario secondary school academic background or for those who wish to get a better understanding of required prerequisites. 

How to Apply

All applicants apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) using the Undergraduate Application.

General Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma including six 4U/4M courses including program specific prerequisites.

Average Calculations

Admission averages are calculated using the best six 4U/M marks including prerequisite courses. Scholarship averages are calculated using the best six 4U/4M (prerequisites not required) final grades for courses completed as of June 30.

Program Specific Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Arts

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

70%


Majors: Anthropology, Child and Family Studies, Criminal Justice3, English Studies, Environmental Geography, Gender Equality and Social Justice, Geography, History1, Indigenous Studies, Liberal Arts4, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religions and Cultures, Social Welfare and Social Development2

Admission Requirements: ENG4U plus 5 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Majors: Computer Science, Mathematics

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; MCV4U; one other Mathematics plus 3 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

1 Applicants interested in the Bachelor of Arts (History) with an Orientation to a Master of Arts in History require a minimum average of 80% for admission consideration. This is a highly competitive, limited enrollment program. The average required for admission may be higher than the stated minimum.

2 Nipissing also offers a joint Bachelor of Arts (Social Welfare and Social Development)/Social Service Worker diploma with Canadore College. Students in this program will spend one year at Canadore and graduate with both their degree and diploma in 4 years.

3 Streams available: Corrections and Community Justice Services (collaborative with Canadore), Criminal Justice Studies, Criminology, Policing (collaborative with Canadore).

4 3-year program only. Students must select two minors by the end of first-year.

Bachelor of Business Administration

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

70%


Admission Requirements: ENG4U plus 5 additional 4U and/or 4M courses. Two of MCV4U, MHF4U and MDM4U are recommended. Applicants without two maths will be required to complete MATH 1911 and/or MATH 1912 in their first year.

Students select an area of concentration at the end of first year: Accounting,  Entrepreneurship and Innovation Leadership, Finance, Human Resources, International Business, Marketing

Bachelor of Commerce (Distance)

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

70%


Admission Requirements: ENG4U plus 5 additional 4U and/or 4M courses. 

Offered through our online learning platform, Blackboard.

You can complete the program in one of three ways or a combination of two or more of the options available to you. 

Options available are:

  • Take courses delivered purely online, which will allow you the most flexibility to study on your own schedule. 
  • Take courses delivered SYNC (synchronous) online. This is a live streamed class, which is scheduled during the evening between 6-9pm between Monday-Friday.
  • Take courses onsite at one of our partner college campuses. If you reside near one of our four college partners, Algonquin, Centennial, Lambton or St. Clair, you can choose to register for a Nipissing Bachelor of Commerce course delivered on that campus. All scheduled classes run between 5pm-9pm, Monday to Friday.

Bachelor of Fine Arts

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

Admission Requirements: ENG4U plus 5 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Students admitted to the BFA are required to successfully complete the BFA Portfolio Assessment the year prior to their final year of study in order to remain in the BFA program.

Bachelor of Physical and Health Education

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; one of PSK4U or SBI4U plus 4 additional 4U and/or 4M courses. SCH4U and one Mathematics are recommended.

Bachelor of Science

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; SBI4U; SCH4U; one of MCV4U or MHF4U plus 2 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Major: Computer Science

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; MCV4U; one other Mathematics; one of SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U plus 2 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Major: Data Science, Mathematics

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; MCV4U; MHF4U; one of SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U plus 2 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Major: Environmental Biology and Technology

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; SBI4U; SCH4U; one of MCV4U, MHF4U or SPH4U plus 2 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Major: Environment and Physical Geography

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; one Mathematics; one of SCH4U or SPH4U plus 3 additional 4U and/or 4M courses. 

Major: Environmental Science

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; one of MCV4U or MHF4U; SCH4U; one of SBI4U, SPH4U or SES4U plus 2 additional 4U and/or 4M courses. 

Major: Liberal Science1

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; two of SCH4U, 4U Mathematics (either MCV4U or MHF4U) or SPH4U

Major: Psychology

Admission Requirements: ENG4U; one Mathematics; one of SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U plus 3 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Bachelor of Social Work

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

70%


Admission Requirements: ENG4U (with a minimum grade of 70%) plus 5 additional 4U and/or 4M courses.

During Year 2 of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, students must apply for admission consideration to the professional years (Years 3 and 4) of the program.  Admission to the first or second year of the BSW program does not guarantee acceptance into the professional years.

Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Commerce

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

Admission Requirements: The regular requirements for the BA or BSc major to which you are interested in applying to.

Undergraduate Degree with Concurrent Education

Minimum Average for Admission Consideration:

70%


Admission Requirements: The regular requirements for the Honours undergraduate program you select to complete with Concurrent Education. In addition, you will need to present ENG4U with a minimum grade of 70% and a 3U, 3M or 4U Mathematics with a minimum grade of 60%.
