2014 Convocation come and gone

The last degree has been conferred and framed, the final flowers put in water and the dress shoes replaced with flip flops. Yes, convocation has wrapped up for another year at Nipissing University.

This year was a remarkable one with much to celebrate in the way of student achievement, faculty expertise, engaging honorary degrees, and, of course, RUSH!

Nipissing conferred roughly 1,300 degrees over the course of seven ceremonies, six in North Bay and one in Brantford, this is in addition to the nine honorary degrees, the university’s highest distinction, that were awarded to Rush (Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson), Giles Blunt, Dr. Donald Weaver, Dr. Mary Ferguson-Paré, Muriel Sawyer, the Honorable Frances Lankin, and Ron Jamieson.

Mother Nature even made a memorable appearance, letting us all know who’s really in charge, and unfortunately forcing Rush’s plane to be diverted and forcing them to, ahem, rush, a video message for graduates. While many were hoping to see Rush in person, the videos are fantastic and the convocation ceremony didn’t miss a beat. At the end of the day, the graduates are the star of the show anyway! You can check out Dr. Geddy Lee’s address here, and Dr. Alex Lifeson’s address here.

The convocation webcasts are now up and running right here for your viewing pleasure.

Over the course of the next few weeks, NU News will be sharing our exclusive interviews with honorary degree recipients, so please stay tuned.
