Welsh Elementary School in Lac La Biche, AB.
The Edwin Parr Teacher Award recognizes outstanding first-year teachers. It is presented annually to six first-year teachers from around the province.  Brown will now face off against 15-16 other nominees from Alberta school boards. All zone winners will be honoured in the fall at the annual Alberta School Board Association in November.
“As a graduate from Nipissing I owe it to the faculty for preparing me for the wonderful profession of education. Thanks for your support and feedback when I was offered this position,” wrote Brown in an email to Dr. Glen Sharpe, associate professor in the Schulich School of Education.
Vera Welsh principal, Dana Robb, said that Brown’s “focus on physical literacy skills for all of our students was a clear indication that he understood the needs of our students.  From the walking club in the morning to planning events like Winter Walk Day, Brown is modeling the correct behaviours.”?
