Lakers Basketball is proud to host the first ever Indigenous Cultural Celebration Night at a Nipissing Basketball game. This night is intended to provide a platform to honour and celebrate local Indigenous culture and heritage. Vendors are invited to set up in the foyer of the RJSAC and there will be drumming, dancing, and more throughout the night.  Beautiful jerseys will be on display that were created by Indigenous student and artist, Micah MacLeod. These jerseys display the colours of the medicine wheel, a dream catcher, and an illustration of turtle island.

Women's Game @ 6:00pm & Men's Game @ 8:00pm

Prior to the event, coaches and athletes from the Nipissing University men's and women's basketball teams will be visiting Kikendawt Kinoomaadii Gamig. Children from Kikendawt Kinoomaadii Gamig will be attending the game on February 9th to sing and enjoy high-quality varsity basketball.

Donations will be accepted on the night of the event, with all proceeds going toward Nipissing University's Mino-Bimaadiziwin Cultural Development Bursary. The term "mino-bimaadiziwin" means "good life" in Anishinaabemowin and refers to the concept of having balance within the four quadrants of the medicine wheel - physical; mental; emotional; spiritual. This bursary is designed to support Indigenous student cultural revitalization and is valued at $500.
