Leadership, Community, and the RSD

Roshni Seeraj-Turingia is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) student at Nipissing University specializing in Mathematics and is set to graduate in June 2026. Her Nipissing journey has been shaped by community, leadership, and a clear sense of purpose.
Roshni first learned about the Record of Student Development (RSD) in her second year, as students were returning to in-person learning following the pandemic. She was drawn to the RSD as a way to formally capture both her professional and voluntary experiences, while also developing skills that would support her future career goals. She values having a comprehensive transcript that highlights her various positions, training, and achievements; one that gives employers or post-graduate institutions insight into her character and growth beyond a traditional resume.
When selecting experiences to include in her RSD, Roshni was intentional. Aspiring to become a teacher, she focused on roles centred on student support, leadership, and community building, experiences that will help her create positive, inclusive learning environments in the future. She also considered how her involvement contributes to the broader Nipissing community, ensuring her actions helped other Lakers thrive as well.
Throughout her time at Nipissing, Roshni has been deeply involved in building supportive, inclusive communities. She has played an active role with International Support Services (ISS) as a mentor in the International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP), where she supported students from around the world during periods of transition and high stress. In this role, she focused on ensuring students felt connected and supported as they navigated university life.
Roshni has also been a cornerstone of the Residence Life community for the past four years. Her journey began as a Residence Don, followed by a summer role as a Residence Admissions Assistant, and she now serves as a Community Assistant, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging among students living in residence. Through these positions, she has developed a wide range of transferable skills, including conflict resolution, accountability, leadership, and communication.
In addition, Roshni has supported Recruitment and Residence initiatives during Open House events, facilitating tours and engaging with prospective students and their families. These experiences allowed her to share her own story and help demonstrate that Nipissing truly feels like a home away from home.
Most recently, Roshni took on the role of President of the Nipissing University Math and Computer Science Society (NUMCSS). Leading the society is especially meaningful to her, as she is passionate about creating a lasting sense of community within the department. Through this role, she works to strengthen connections between students and faculty, with the goal of building a supportive network that will continue to benefit future mathematicians and computer scientists for years to come.
Reflecting on her RSD has been an eye-opening experience for Roshni. Documenting her academic, leadership, and community involvement has allowed her to clearly see how far she has come. Experiences that once felt separate now tell a cohesive story, marked by growing confidence and a stronger sense of purpose.
The RSD has also encouraged Roshni to explore opportunities she may not have otherwise considered. By browsing the RSD Activity Page, she has discovered new ways to get involved, set meaningful goals, and stay aligned with her long-term aspirations.
