Message from the President

I am delighted to introduce Nipissing University 's 2010-2015 Strategic Plan, entitled "Academic Excellence". The document is a product of numerous and broad consultations and discussions, and the plan itself builds on the strategic focus laid out five years ago. The plan includes some selected growth, and promotes greater scholarly activity, with much emphasis upon the Nipissing Experience. The University defines itself as a student-centred institution with learning at the heart of all its plans and actions. It has a fundamental mission of service toward developing creative and concerned critical thinkers, who will make a difference and become leaders. As a university, we will continue to grow and increase the "intellectual capacity" of the community, but we will do it "one student at a time", and do it very well. Nipissing is delivering on its mission with top-of-the-class results in national surveys: small active classes, the availability of faculty to students outside classroom hours, opportunities for research, professional placement, and community-based service learning. Indeed all of these benefits and the overall quality of education received are the advantages underpinning the Nipissing Experience.

To provide more learners with opportunities for their own Nipissing Experience, the University's 2010-2015 plan speaks of a vision of growth as a university of choice, focused among other things on active and healthy learning, and developing a theme "Fit to Learn, Fit to Lead." This reinforces the University's motto "Integritas", urging a desirable mode of human conduct and intellectual inquiry, a holistic and inclusive approach to life and learning.

Looking forward,
Lesley Lovett-Doust
President and Vice-Chancellor
