Focusing on understanding society, social behavior and the structure of human groups, sociology involves the systematic study of interactions between people and important social institutions. Nipissing's sociology students explore the sociological influences of various topics such as the family, workplace, education, medicine, demographics, and the criminal justice system.
Students will learn the essentials of qualitative and quantitative social research, including how to design questionnaires, conduct interviews, implement surveys and focus groups, and perform computerized data analysis.
Students in the honours program have opportunities to enhance their conceptual and research skills through advanced theory and research methodology courses.
Students who plan to continue in graduate studies in the future, can take advantage of the opportunity to complete supervised research projects during their fourth year.
