Dean's Message
Welcome to the Faculty of Education, Nipissing University. Dedicated to both teaching and research, our faculty is composed of provincially, nationally, and internationally recognized scholars and teachers who through their teaching and research help you to discover and apply knowledge relevant to your selected career.
We are proud of our consecutive, concurrent and orientation to teaching programs at the pre-service level. In addition, we are renowned for our highly respected in-service and graduate programs, and as well, are home to an International Centre for Educational Leadership and the Nipissing Centre for Literacy.
Our programs for Aboriginal students who wish to become teachers are well respected and focus on developing intercultural understanding.
Nipissing students have achieved positions in national and international venues as educators in a range of locations from traditional schools through to non-traditional settings.
Now in our second century of teacher education in North Bay, we continue our tradition of creating and extending a learning environment that fosters a professional community. Here you will develop the critical thinking, humane values and the practical skills necessary to become a teacher and lifelong learner. In addition, our many vibrant programs provide opportunities for those not directly involved in schools to develop and refine their understanding of teaching and learning in alternative settings.
As a student in the Faculty of Education at Nipissing University, you join a tradition of excellence that informs policy and practice in education and in the wider community. We look forward to working with you as you grow into your profession.
Sharon Rich, EdD
Professor and Dean of Education
