Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Co-operators(Airport Rd) North Bay Award in Organizational Studies

    Award Value $750.00

    Presented to a full-time Bachelor of Business Administration - HMRC student at Nipissing University. The recipient must have a minimum 70% average and should demonstrate an enthusiasm for and dedication to furthering corporate social responsibility. The recipient must demonstrate financial need.

  • Constable Andrew Keating Memorial Award

    Award Value $500.00

    Established as a tribute to alumnus, Andrew Keating, a Criminal Justice graduate of Nipissing University and a member of the North Bay Police Service. It recognizes a Lakers Men's volleyball student -athlete who best exemplifies the "Success 10" core values both on and off the court. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing. The recipient is selected by the Nipissing Lakers Men's Volleyball coaching staff, in consultation with the Student Awards Office.

  • Cup Gunning Award

    Award Value $675.00

    Presented to a full-time student over the previous year at Nipissing University in a History major, who has shown a strong interest in Local Community History, and is deemed most deserving by the History Department. Should a suitable candidate not be found, consideration is given to students showing a strong interest in Military History. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Curry Family Bursary in Graduate Studies

    Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full time student enrolled in a graduate program at Nipissing University.

  • Cynthia Johnston Memorial Award

    Award Value $725.00

    Presented annually, in memory of Cynthia Johnston (B.Ed. 07), to a graduating student of the Bachelor of Education program who has displayed a positive attitude and a strong work ethic throughout the program. Preference is given to someone who expresses a sincere desire to teach music. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and must be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Students are nominated by the Faculty.

  • David Cybulski Memorial Award

    Award Value $675.00

    Established in memory of David Cybulski by his friends and family. David was a third year Environmental Science Physical Geography major who co-founded the Environmental Action Committee on campus. This award is presented to an upper year student in an Environmental program, with preference to students in the Environmental Science Physical Geography or Bachelor of Science Environmental Geography programs. The recipient must be actively involved in protecting the natural environment, show strong academic standing, demonstrate financial need and must be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Established in memory of Bud and Neil Davies, this bursary is presented to a full-time student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at Nipissing University who demonstrates financial need.
