Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards: In-Course

Established to honour the life of Dr. James S. Jamieson in recognition of his dedication to encouraging teachers to inspire young students with their love of music. Dr. James S. Jamieson was an active member of the North Bay community, serving on the Board of Governors of Nipissing University and as the first president of the Nipissing University Alumni Association. He was also a member of the North Bay Symphony Orchestra, playing the violin for 20 years. The award is presented to a Bachelor of Education student enrolled in an elective music course(s) who expresses a strong and sincere desire to teach music. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

Presented to a student in the summer session of the first year of one of the three Nipissing University Summer Indigenous Programs: Teacher of Anishnaabemwin as a Second Language program, the Native Classroom Assistant Development Program, or the Indigenous Teacher Certification Program. The recipient must be a resident of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.

Awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled full-time at Nipissing University in the Arts, Commerce, Science, Social Work or Business Administration. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and cannot be sponsored by the Department of Indigneous and Northern Affairs.

Presented to a full-time Nipissing student graduating from the Intermediate/Senior Division of the Bachelor of Education program. Qualified candidates must have successfully taken the Technology Enriched Teaching and Learning Course (EDUC 4766) The selected recipient is deemed most deserving by the Intermediate/Senior Division faculty and must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. The Instructor selects this recipient.

Presented annually at Convocation to a deserving graduating student in the Faculty of Arts and Science with a major in Fine Arts, specializing in visual arts, who has excelled in his/her Fine Arts courses. Preference is given to a student who has expressed an intention to pursue graduate studies the following year. The recipient is selected by faculty in the department.

Established in honour of Dr. Surtees' dedication, spirit and commitment to Nipissing University, this award is presented annually to a full-time, fourth year Honours History student who makes a personal contribution in the field of athletics or extracurricular activities at the university or in the community at large. The recipient is selected by the History department.

Awarded annually in June to the graduating student, in third or fourth year English Studies (including students in the final year of Concurrent Education), with an excellent academic record and demonstrated financial need who will be continuing her/his studies at either a faculty of education or a graduate school. The faculty in the English Studies department selects the most deserving applicant. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Presented to a full-time Nipissing University student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program who has an undergraduate degree in science, mathematics or engineering. Preference is given to students from northern Ontario and to students who were and continue to be involved in university athletics. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

Presented annually to a full-time Nipissing University student on the basis of financial need. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

Presented to a graduating full-time student from the Schulich School of Education Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Division who was highly successful in all practice teaching placements. This award is intended to be presented to a student who will pursue a career in teaching and ideally register as a member of the Elementary Teacher’s Federation. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Students are nominated by the Faculty. The recipient must demonstrate financial need.
