Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Doty Family Scholarship

    Award Value $1,200.00

    Awarded on the basis of academic merit to selected full time students from the Muskoka region entering their first year of an undergraduate degree program at Nipissing University. To be considered, students must apply for admission to Nipissing University by May 1.

    Complete a Nipissing University Application for Entrance Awards, available on our website in early March. Deadline: May 1.

  • Dr. Anne Clendinning Memorial Scholarship

    Award Value $425.00

    Established to honour the life of Dr. Anne Clendinning, this scholarship is presented to a female Nipissing University student studying history at the graduate level. Preference is given to a student who completed her undergraduate degree at Nipissing University.

  • Dr. David Hall Memorial Award

    Award Value $750.00

    Established to honour the life of Nipissing University professor, Dr. David Hall, and recognizes his dedication and passion in Sociology. The award is presented to a full-time student majoring in Sociology at Nipissing University. The recipient demonstrates leadership qualities and an enthusiasm for the program, both inside and outside the classroom. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Dr. David Liddle Award in Education

    Award Value $425.00

    Established to honour the life of former Nipissing University Chancellor, Dr. David Liddle. This award recognizes his dedication and passion for education and is presented to a graduating Bachelor of Education student in the Concurrent or Consecutive program who attended a local high school. The recipient must also demonstrate service to the community through volunteerism and a passion for education through mentorship, and have positively impacted the lives of others beyond the university setting. 

    The application can be found in the "Forms and Applications" section of the Student Financial Services website; deadline: March 15th. Recipients will be selected by the Schulich School of Education Awards committee.

  • Dr. Doug Franks Memorial Award

    Award Value $400.00

    The award was established by the Schulich School of Education to honour a special colleague and friend, Dr. Doug Franks. The award is presented annually to a graduate of the Bachelor of Education (consecutive or concurrent) program with the intention of entering the Master of Education degree program at Nipissing University. The award recipient should be one who demonstrates care and compassion for fellow learners and who has contributed to the enrichment of the Nipissing community during his or her BEd degree program. The award recipient will self-nominate and be selected by the Schulich School of Education Student Awards Committee.

    The application can be found in the "Forms and Applications" section of the Student Financial Services website; deadline: March 15th. Recipients will be selected by the Schulich School of Education Awards committee.

  • Dr. Elizabeth Thorn Award in Education

    Award Value $2,700.00

    Awarded to selected students in the Primary-Junior Division of the full-time Bachelor of Education program with a minimum admittance average of 80%. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and be residents of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Dr. George J. Zytaruk Founding President's Award in English Studies

    Award Value $2,800.00

    Presented, on the basis of financial need, to a full-time third or fourth year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program with English Studies as a major. The recipient must have a minimum average of 80% in his/her major. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Dr. Helen Langford Scholarship

    Award Value $1,100.00

    Presented annually to a student in the Primary/Junior division of the Bachelor of Education program who has demonstrated academic excellence and exemplary teaching practices. This scholarship was established in honour of Dr. Langford's passionate and enthusiastic dedication to education and most notably her kind and gentle manner in the classroom, making her students feel welcome and comfortable. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Dr. Herb and Mrs. Geetie Brown Award in Nursing

    Award Value $1,600.00

    Presented to a full-time second year student in the Bachelor of Science Nursing program who displays the qualities of integrity, caring/compassion, patience, empathy, critical thinking, responsibility, and accountability that are important to the nursing profession. The recipient is selected on the basis of financial need and a strong academic record by the faculty in the School of Nursing. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Established to honour past, present and future Presidents of the Dr. Herbert A. Bruce Chapter IODE, and is presented on the basis of financial need to a full-time student. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.
