Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

You can apply for all available scholarships, bursaries, and awards through a single application form, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • The Klose Family Award

    Award Value $500.00

    The Klose Family Award recognizes a full-time Nipissing University business student who exemplifies a balanced approach to post-secondary education by excelling in academics, athletics (varsity or recreational), and social engagement or volunteerism.

  • The Knowledge First Foundation Anokiitage Social Work Scholarship

    Award Value $425.00

    Established by a generous gift from the Knowledge First Foundation. This is awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled in the professional years of Social Work who has a minimum overall average of 75%.

  • The Ledger Family Legacy Award

    Award Value $2,500.00

    Established by the Ledger family to commemorate Kristine Ledger's impact as a Nipissing Laker. The Kristine Ledger Award is presented to a female varsity athlete playing on the Nipissing Women's Volleyball team. The recipient must demonstrate characteristics that Kristine displayed during her time with the Lakers such as hard work, dedication, competitiveness and resiliency. Selected by the Nipissing Women’s Volleyball Coaching Staff

  • The Mirjana Alimpic Award

    Award Value $1,000.00

    Established in memory of Mirjana Alimpic, graduate bookkeeper, and lifelong child development program supporter, dedicated to fostering growth of young individuals with focus on literacy and independence. The Mirjana Alimpic Award recognizes a full time Nipissing student enrolled in the Child and Family Studies program who is completing the Early Intervention Certificate. The recipient must demonstrate a passion for fostering growth in young children and have participated in a volunteer placement.

  • The Neves-Gauthier Award

    Award Value $500.00

    Established by the Nipissing University Business Community, the Neves-Gauthier Award is presented annually to a full-time Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student who demonstrates academic excellence (min 80% average) and significant community involvement through volunteer work. The recipient must be in 2nd or 3rd year, and can be a domestic or international student.

  • The Nipissing Philosophy Scholarship

    Award Value $500.00

    Established by the Nipissing Philosophy department, the Nipissing Philosophy Scholarship is presented to the full-time 3rd year Philosophy student with the highest average. (based on philosophy courses only).

  • The NoahStrong Athletic Award

    Award Value $2,500.00

    Established to honour the life of Noah Dougas, who humbly united and inspired communities through exemplary values of kindness, compassion, determination, and bravery. Can be split between one female and one male athlete.

    The NoahStrong Athletic Award is presented to a Nipissing student athlete who exemplifies Noah’s affirmations: Acts of kindness, strength, helpfulness, leadership, earned respect from their peers, the ability to face challenges, goal-oriented, resilient, brave, and loved. Nomination by coaching & athletics staff, or teammates accepted (2023 recipient selected by athletic awards committee)

  • The North Bay Youth Soccer Club Heather Cluff Award

    Award Value $3,300.00

    Awarded to one full-time female student entering their first year of studies at Nipissing University. The recipient must demonstrate academic merit, must have been recruited and signed to play varsity soccer with the Nipissing Lakers, and have attended a Nipissing District Secondary School. If there are no eligible soccer players in any given year, the award may be given to a first-year varsity athlete from another team.

  • The North Bay Youth Soccer Club Richard Dull Award

    Award Value $3,300.00

    Awarded to one full-time male student entering their first year of studies at Nipissing University. The recipient must demonstrate academic merit, must have been recruited and signed to play varsity soccer with the Nipissing Lakers, and have attended a Nipissing District Secondary School. If there are no eligible soccer players in any given year, the award may be given to a first-year varsity athlete from another team.

  • The Ontario-Ukraine Solidarity Scholarship

    Award Value $10,000.00

    Awarded to students that were in the Ukraine at the time of the invasion, students indirectly impacted by the Ukraine conflict, or students impacted by other conflicts around the globe, students must be pursuing full-time or part-time studies at a publicly-assisted college or university in Ontario during the 2022-23 academic year. Additionally, students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, community service, or perseverance of dedication to their education. A personal impact statement is required.
