Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Elijah Tupling Memorial Award

    Award Value $625.00

    Established in memory of Elijah Tuplin (BEd 08/09) and awarded to a pre-service teacher who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the BEd program, shows empathy and strong interpersonal skills. Awarded on the basis of financial need, the recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Elspeth Minnery Memorial Award

    Award Value $425.00

    Established to honour the life of Elspeth Minnery. This award is presented to a mature student in any degree program at Nipissing University on the basis of financial need.

  • Emergency Assistance

    Award Value $100.00

    Available to assist with the costs of unexpected expenses that could not be anticipated in a student's budget.

    Contact the Student Awards & Financial Aid office for an application. Funding is generally only provided for unexpected circumstances that couldn't have been budgeted for.

  • Euler Family Award

    Award Value $1,600.00

    The Euler Family Award is presented annually to an upper-year FAVA student (enrolled in third-year classes or higher) who demonstrates proficiency, creativity, and excellence in traditional printmaking methods, including relief, etching, drypoint, screenprint, monotype, monoprint, lithography, and more. This faculty-selected award is based on the aforementioned criteria. Applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio consisting of 5-7 works, accompanied by a brief written statement about their artwork. In the event that two students are equally deserving, the award will be divided between them.

  • First Generation Bursary

    Award Value Variable

    Presented on the basis of financial need to selected first year students who indicate that neither parent attended either college or university.

  • George and Carol Valin Award in English Studies

    Award Value $550.00

    Presented to a full-time, upper year Nipissing University student enrolled in the English Studies program with high academic standing (minimum 75%). The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • George and Katina Galanis Memorial Bursary

    Award Value $775.00

    Awarded on the basis of financial need.

  • Georgia Lyons Memorial Award

    Award Value $1,200.00

    Established to honour the life and passion of long-time Nipissing University employee and alumna, Georgia Lyons. Georgia, also known as "the Grammar Granny" devoted her time to working one-on-one with students, assisting them in developing their writing skills, overcoming challenges and teaching them methods for research and documentations. She shared a wealth of knowledge and had the ability to make people feel comfortable. This award recognizes the efforts of a Nipissing University student who has demonstrated significant effort in overcoming academic challenges such as writing, language or study skills. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and is selected by the Office of Student Development, in consultation with the Financial Aid Office.

  • Gloria Margaret Moreau Onyett Memorial Award in Education

    Award Value $1,100.00

    Established to honour the life of North Bay Normal School alumna, Gloria Margaret Moreau Onyett, the award recognizes her dedication and passion for education.

    The Gloria Margaret Moreau Onyett Award in Education will be presented annually to two students in the Nipissing University Bachelor of Education program. The award will be split equally between a first year student and a second year student and will be awarded based on academic excellence. Preference will be given to students from the Algoma Region.
