Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Governor General's Academic Silver Medal

    Award Value $0.00

    Awarded for academic excellence to the student graduating from a three-year or four-year bachelor degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science with the highest academic standing.

  • Greg Kotsilidis Memorial Award

    Award Value $1,225.00

    Presented to a deserving graduating full-time Bachelor of Education student who achieved a high average in the visual arts course (Intermediate or Senior) and who demonstrated a commitment to encouraging the value of art in education. Students are nominated by the Faculty. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Ina Hutchison Memorial Scholarship

    Award Value $1,100.00

    Awarded to a full-time student entering third or fourth year of a Geography major with a minimum sessional average of 80% on 30 credits taken in the fall/winter session of second year. The recipient is selected by the Geography department. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Indigenous Student Bursary

    Award Value Variable

    Provided, through funding from the provincial government, to Indigenous students on the basis of financial need. Students must be Ontario residents, as defined by OSAP.

    Complete the APSET bursary application available on the Student Financial Services website. Deadline: 4:00 pm November 1.

  • Indigenous Student Technology Award

    Award Value $500.00

    Presented to a student who self-identifies as Indigenous and requires tech hardware such as a laptop or tablet to aid them in their studies. The student must also demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a student in a graduate studies program or a student in their 3rd or 4th year in an undergraduate program.

  • International Student Bursary

    Award Value Variable

    Awarded to international students studying full-time in a undergraduate degree program at Nipissing University in at least their second year of study who demonstrate financial need.

  • Ishwariya Ramakrishnan Award

    Award Value $500.00

    Awarded to a full-time Nipissing University student pursuing a business degree or diploma. The recipient must have a minimum of 75% average and a Record of Student Development with the Office of Student Development Services. The recipient must demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and on-campus community involvement.

  • Ivan A. and Joy Clysdale Memorial Achievement Award

    Award Value $800.00

    Presented annually to two full-time undergraduate students (not including Consecutive Education students) who demonstrate hard work and enthusiasm in their classroom. Recipients are selected by the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee based on nominations collected from the Nipissing University community and must demonstrate financial need and be residents of Ontario as defined by OSAP.
