Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • J.S. Redpath Limited Award in Business

    Award Value $2,900.00

    Designed to attract students to the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program. The recipients must possess a minimum 75% on his/her best six 4U or 4M final grades,and exemplify interest and involvement in extra-curricular activities. The recipients must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Complete a Nipissing University Application for Entrance Awards, available on our website in early March. Deadline: May 1.

  • J.S. Redpath Limited Award in Environmental Science

    Award Value $2,900.00

    Designed to attract students to the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science or the Bachelor of Science - Biology degree program, with preference to the former. The recipients must possess a minimum 75% in his/her best six 4U, 4M final grades, and exemplify interest and involvement in extra-curricular activities. The recipients must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • J.W. Trusler Proficiency Awards in Arts and Science

    Award Value $300.00

    Presented to a graduating student, either part-time or full-time, in each major. The recipients are chosen by the respective faculty of each major, primarily on the basis of academic achievement. Each student must have a minimum 80% average in the course used to calculate the average in his/her major. The majority of credits (24 for three-year degree students and 48 for four-year degree students) must have been earned at Nipissing University. Students with a double major are only eligible to receive one J.W. Trusler Award.

  • J.W. Trusler Proficiency Awards in Education

    Award Value $300.00

    Presented to six graduating students as selected by the faculty of each division, based primarily on academic achievement and for excellence in practice teaching. The number of awards for the Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, and Intermediate/Senior Divisions is proportionate to the number of sections in each division.

  • Jack and Mary Ann Jones International Exchange Awards

    Award Value $1,000.00

    Presented to selected students who are participating in international exchange activities through Nipissing University. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must be residents of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Award value depends on length of exchange.

  • Jeremy MacDonald Memorial Award

    Award Value $450.00

    Established in memory of Jeremy MacDonald, this award is presented to a mature student enrolled in either a History or Political Science major. The recipient must demonstrate financial need.

  • John H. Clark Award

    Award Value $5,425.00

    Presented to a full-time second, third or fourth year Bachelor of Business Administration student with an excellent academic record who also demonstrates financial need and is a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • John R. McCarthy Scholarship

    Award Value $1,025.00

    Established in 1994 by John R. McCarthy, former Deputy Minister of University Affairs and Deputy Minister of Education for the Province of Ontario. The scholarship is awarded to a student who graduated with at least second-class standing from either a three-year or four-year undergraduate program at Nipissing University in the preceding academic year, and who is currently enrolled in the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing in the Fall Session immediately following graduation. Preference is given to a student who has displayed leadership in student government and student affairs, made a personal contribution to the life of the University, shown a fondness and aptitude for sports, and displayed leadership and a sense of fair play in athletic endeavours. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Joseph and Laura McMeekin Memorial Award

    Award Value $375.00

    Established in memory of Joseph L. McMeekin, and his loving wife Laura McMeekin. Joseph was a nature enthusiast and a kind hearted gentleman who gave generously of his time to service groups that had an impact on children. The award is presented to a student who shows commitment and dedication to volunteerism and community service. The recipient must be enrolled in Geography or an Environmental program. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.

  • Joshua and Shirley Carfagnini Awards

    Award Value $1,375.00

    Presented to two full-time students, one male and one female, participating in varsity athletics. Selection is made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.
