Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Political Science Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented to a full-time student on the basis of academic merit (minimum 70%) deemed most deserving by the department of Political Science. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Student Life Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented to a second, third, or fourth year, full-time or part-time student maintaining a minimum 70% average. The student will have contributed to one or more of the following categories: on campus clubs, volunteer community services, student government, athletic teams, or active participation in extra-curricular activities. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board-Reverend Theodore Sobisch Social Welfare Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented to a full time second, third or fourth year student majoring in Social Welfare or Social Work with a minimum 70% average. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Entrance Award

    Award Value $725.00

    Presented to a full-time student, entering the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies, with a minimum "B" average (70%) on his/her best six final 4U, 4M grades, who is the child or grandchild of a Nipissing graduate. The recipient must have demonstrated participation and leadership in extra-curricular activities such as volunteer service, achievement in athletics or the arts, or other significant endeavours. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Presented annually to a second year full-time Indigenous student enrolled in an Arts and Science degree program who has a minimum overall average of 75% and demonstrates financial need.

  • Nipissing University Bachelor of Education Indigenous Student Award

    Award Value $1,050.00

    Presented annually to a full-time Indigenous student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program who has a minimum admission average of 75% and demonstrates financial need.

  • Nipissing University Entrance Bursary

    Award Value $1,000.00

    Students currently attending high school who are applying for full-time admission to the first year of an undergraduate degree program at Nipissing University are eligible to apply for this award. To be considered, applicants must demonstrate financial need, must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada and must have lived in Ontario for at least one year.

  • Nipissing University Laker Spirit Award

    Award Value $450.00

    Presented annually to a full-time upper year student whose integrity, scholarship and extra-curricular contribution to the Nipissing University athletic community is outstanding. This award aims to recognize a student who strives to encourage the "Laker Spirit" in one or more of the following areas of university athletics: varsity and intramural sports, the Nipissing University Student Athletic Council, coaching and/or official game duties. All nominated candidates are required to be in good academic standing.
