Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Computer Science and Math Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented to a full-time student on the basis of academic merit (minimum 70%) deemed most deserving by the department of Computer Science and Mathematics. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Awarded to a first or second year student maintaining a minumum 70% average in the Consecutive Bachelor of Education degree program (B.Ed.). The recipient must demonstrate financial need.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Criminal Justice Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented to a full-time student in at least second year of the Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice) program on the basis of academic merit (minimum 70%) deemed most deserving by the Department of Criminal Justice. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and must be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Distinguished Alumnus Award

    Award Value $825.00

    Presented in honour of a distinguished alumnus each year. It is awarded on the basis of financial need to an upper year student in the Concurrent Education Program who has at least a minimum 70% average. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board Mature or Transfer Student Award

    Award Value $800.00

    Awarded to an undergraduate Mature (no previous post-secondary) student or a transfer student who registers in a full time undergraduate studies program at Nipissing in a first degree program. It is awarded on the basis of financial need (for Mature Students) and full time academic performance in the most recent year of post-secondary studies (for Transfer students). Studies must have been undertaken in an academic program at an accredited Community College or University. It is not necessary that transfer students have completed their prior post-secondary studies.
