Dr. Glen Sharpe's connection with Nipissing University began serendipitously in the mid-90s when he stopped at the campus while driving from Thunder Bay to Bramalea, Ontario. Curious about the university, he entered the education office, where he was greeted with warmth and friendliness. That visit left a lasting impression, so when it came time to pursue a Master’s degree in Education, Nipissing was his first choice.

Last month approximately 50 Nipissing University students gathered in the small cafeteria for an event focused on mental health, connection, and support. The event began with a self-serve taco bar, and event MC, Alexander Domingos, welcoming everyone and setting the stage for an afternoon of food, conversation, and inspiration.

For Nipissing alumni and siblings Margarida Shail and Paulo Carvalho, running has always been a part of their lives; a way to challenge themselves, stay connected, and push personal limits. But in 2024, their passion for the sport led to something even bigger: a Guinness World Record.

In honour of Earth Day, Nipissing University faculty and staff stepped outside on April 22 to roll up their sleeves and give back to the environment during the Clean Up, Green Up, Together for a Better Campus event. With support from Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay (CGB), the afternoon event brought together employees from across campus to help tidy and beautify Nipissing’s outdoor spaces.

When fourth-year Political Science and Economics student Kennedy Bond began searching for a way to apply her academic knowledge outside the classroom, she never expected it would lead to a province-wide policy project with real-world impact.

This informal yet meaningful gathering offered colleagues the chance to come together, share in light refreshments, and reflect on the deep-rooted culture of giving that shapes our campus community.

On March 19, Business student Kyle Labron and Interim Dean of the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies, Dr. Graydon Raymer, shared roles for a day. The initiative gave Kyle a rare behind-the-scenes look at university operations while offering Dr. Raymer an opportunity to gain a student perspective on academic experiences and challenges.

On April 2, Nipissing University English student Priya Seeraj-Turingia and Dean of Arts & Science, Dr. Nathan Colborne, traded perspectives as part of the Dean for a Day initiative, an experience that offered each of them a deeper understanding of the other’s role in the University.

Two Nipissing University alumni have been recognized for their remarkable dedication to service with one of Canada’s most distinguished honours. Paige Trudeau-Shemilt (BBA ’15) and Macrina Perron (BA ’03) were awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a special ceremony on campus on April 25, 2025.

Earlier today, Nipissing University announced a transformational $5M investment to support the continued development and national expansion of Rare Dementia Support Canada (RDS Canada). This gift will support the expansion of dementia research, support services, and education, as well as help establish a dedicated space to house RDS Canada - a centre committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by rare and young-onset dementias.

Fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students Ricardo Neves and Carlexia Gauthier are wrapping up their time at Nipissing University with a legacy of leadership, generosity, and impact.
