New Award Supports Students from Rural Communities Across Ontario

Nipissing University is proud to celebrate a new partnership with the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) that will provide financial support for students and strengthen connections to rural communities across the province.

Through a $25,000 donation, ROMA has established the ROMA Award at Nipissing University, providing support for students with roots in rural Ontario and a commitment to contributing to the future success of rural communities.

“Nipissing University is deeply grateful to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association for this generous gift,” said Nipissing University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kevin B. Wamsley. “This investment in students at Nipissing reflects a shared understanding that education is a powerful pathway to community well-being. The ROMA Award will have a lasting impact, enabling students to make meaningful contributions to communities throughout rural Ontario.”

ROMA represents municipalities across rural Ontario and advocates for strong, sustainable rural communities. Supporting postsecondary students is a key part of ROMA’s commitment to building capacity and leadership in rural regions, recognizing the important role that education plays in community well-being and municipal success.

The ROMA Award reinforces this role, echoing the commitment outlined in Nipissing’s strategic plan to celebrate its identity while building sustainable futures for generations to come.
