For Sabah Khan, one of her greatest achievements has been building a career that helps students discover the transformative value of international experiences. As Nipissing University’s International Mobility Coordinator, she guides students through every stage of their journey abroad, from exploring opportunities and choosing destinations to preparing for life in a new country and navigating challenges along the way.

“Helping students find opportunities worldwide, break down barriers, and achieve their aspirations has been deeply and personally rewarding,” Sabah shared.
A Nipissing University alumnus, Sabah graduated in 2023 with a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resources and credits her Nipissing experience with helping to lay the foundation for her career.
“I was able to transform academic knowledge into practice, enhancing my abilities in mentorship, strategic thinking, and cross-cultural communication as an in-service employee.”
She describes her time as a student at Nipissing as one of the most influential periods of her life. She credits the University’s supportive environment, caring professors and staff, and the small class sizes, with helping her build genuine connections and benefit from a personalized learning experience.
Beyond the classroom, Sabah served as a mentor with the International Student Mentorship Program, and later as a Teaching Assistant. These experiences helped to increase her confidence, strengthen her connection to the education sector, and played a key role in shaping her career path, while and igniting her passion for helping students achieve their goals.
“Perhaps most importantly, Nipissing gave me a sense of belonging,” she said. “The connections that I made and the mentorship that I received have permanently influenced my vision of education, community, and determination. What I’ve learned here has not only educated me, but given me skills, values, and vision to make a positive influence where I am.”
Sabah also reflects on how her prior international work experience played an equally important role in her development. Having worked in operations and leadership roles in India, the Philippines, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and now Canada, she has gained a broad perspective on global education systems and international collaboration. This combination of international experience and a passion for education ultimately led her to a career supporting students on their own journeys. She has seen firsthand how international experiences broaden perspectives, foster resilience, and create new opportunities.
“I wanted a career that combines cultural exchange, student development, and positive impact - and a career in international mobility allows me to do exactly that.”
For Sabah, being a Nipissing alumnus means being one part of a close-knit community that values connection, growth, and making a positive difference.
“It means more to me than having completed a program,” she explained, “It reflects the friendships I developed, the mentorship I received, and the experiences that facilitated my personal and professional growth.”
She believes being a Nipissing alumnus carries both pride and responsibility; pride in having studied at a university that values inclusivity, care, and student success, and a responsibility to carry those values forward through mentoring students or giving back to the broader community.
Sabah encourages future Nipissing alumni to stay connected to one another, remain open to new opportunities, and continue embracing the values that shaped their time at the University. She also encourages students to find value in every experience, including the challenges they encounter along the way.
“The friendships, relationships, and mentorships that you cultivate here are not just for your student years but can guide and inspire you for years post-graduation.”
In 2025, Sabah was recognized by the Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board with the Dr. James Jamieson Influential Alumni Award which is presented to a Nipissing graduate whose dedication and leadership have influenced significant change and contributed to the success and well-being of their community.
