Community members invited to honour victims of gender-based violence
North Bay, ON – Nipissing University, the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and Amelia Rising invite members of the community to take part in a special ceremony at the University on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:45 a.m. to remember, reflect, and recommit to ending gender-based violence at its National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women Ceremony in the University’s Small Cafeteria (Room A246).
The ceremony will honour the 14 women whose lives were taken at École Polytechnique on December 6,1989 and all women, girls, and gender-diverse people whose lives have been lost due to gender-based violence in Canada.
“Nipissing University is committed to ensuring a safe campus and workplace for all staff, faculty, and students,” stated Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor at Nipissing University. “Please join us for this important gathering where we reaffirm our commitment to addressing gender-based violence and our support for survivors.”
This event is hosted in collaboration with the Nipissing University Access and Belonging team, the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and Amelia Rising.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is observed annually in Canada on December 6.
